A Florida woman filed a Mirena IUD lawsuit The suit was filed on November 5, 2012 in the Superior Court of New Jersey Law Division, Morris County (Civil Action No. MRSL-2723-12). The lawsuit names Bayer Healthcare Pharmaceuticals, the manufacturer of Mirena, as Defendants. This is just one of many Florida women filing Mirena lawsuits. The most serious injury is uterine perforation. We speak to Florida women on a daily basis with serious complications from the Mirena IUD including: migration of the devise  from its original position after being inserted. The devise then perforates the uterus or becomes embedded in the uterus.  The string cannot be found  both and a doctor must locate the devise and surgically remove it. The Mirena can  gravitate outside the  uterus and cause adhesions or scarring.  These complications can lead to permanent infertility. A women may require a complete hysterectomy from the injury caused. In some cases the  complications can cause a premature  death in young women. Other side effects we have had reported by callers include: abscesses, birth of a child with a birth defect, the Mirena becomes embedded in the uterus, erosion of  the vagina, permanent infertility in child bearing women, inflammation of the mucosa linings of the abdominal cavity and internal organs, intestinal perforations or embedding, Pelvic Inflammatory Disease and previously mentioned perforation of the uterus. These are all very serious and a lawyer should be consulted if you have had any of these complications due to the Mirena IUD and especially if the devise was surgically removed.

What is the Mirena IUD?

The Mirena prevents pregnancy by physically obstructing the normal process by which a  baby implants in the uterus of its mother.

Mirena,  contains a synthetic “hormone” called levonorgestrel that  prevents ovulation.  This progestin prevents conception by thickening the cervical mucus and preventing sperm from reaching the ovum. ..Mirena (levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system) is intended to provide an initial release rate of 20 mcg/day of levonorgestrel.
